A Journey Home | 6 Months Backpacking 14 Countries

In 2014, Me and my friend Nate decided to postpone college another year and backpack through Central and South America at 19 and 20 years old. What ended up as a spontaneous, indefinite trip eventually turned into a crazy journey through some of the wildest and unique countries in the world. We hiked, camped, bussed, hitchhiked, couchsurfed, stayed in hostels, HelpX'd, slept in bus stations, and met some incredible people along the way.

I tried to condense our entire six months into a 6 minute or less video, so view this as snapshots of the dozens and dozens of hours of footage we logged on the journey. In addition to our own footage, we did our best to give back to the people we encountered by providing free photography and videography, when able, so some of the footage in this clip are pieces of those.
About three months into our trip, 90% of our camera gear got stolen. Rather than giving up and heading home, we improvised, and had to shoot the last half of our trip with a GoPro and an iPhone. Definitely a major bummer, because we missed out on shooting some really incredible places. Nonetheless, this is what we got.
Finally, the video closes with a few timelapses taken of our homes before our trip, as a coda to our entire journey abroad. A continuing theme throughout our trip was journeying closer and closer to home, because as we were traveling counterclockwise, we were growing ever closer to making a full loop of the continent and eventually reaching home. The thought of home, however, was often an afterthought to all of the amazing places and experiences we found ourselves in. The music, two songs by Radical Face, re-iterate the theme of being "almost home".
